My grandson was being uncooperative. My daughter, Alison, was a week overdue, but the baby showed none of the usual signs of wanting to enter the world and meet us. So Dr. Biss scheduled Alison for induction at Bayfront. A caring nurse hooked up the fetal monitor which showed Alison was indeed having contractions although she could not feel them. Dr. Biss said that introducing induction medication would not be wise in this situation, a Caesarean section was a possibility, but we should wait and see if anything happened naturally. After about 3 hours, when it was apparent that nothing had changed, Dr. Biss
scheduled a C-section for early afternoon. Alison and her husband had prepared
for natural childbirth and she was obviously distressed at this turn of events.
But Dr. Biss, in her straightforward, yet warm style told Alison, “Remember when
you were a little girl and tried to put that square block into that round hole?”
That comment put everyone at ease and my perfect grandson, Cooper Trey Stock,
weighing 8 pounds 5 ounces, was delivered by Dr. Biss less than 30 minutes after
Alison was taken into surgery. When Dr. Biss came out of the surgical suite, we
hugged (she is also MY doctor) and told me, “She could NEVER have had that baby
naturally.”
I am eternally grateful that we now have wonderful physicians like Dr. Biss who
can diagnose what is best for mother and baby. Years ago, without a doctor like
Kimberly Biss and the competent nursing staff at Bayfront, I might have lost them
both.
A grateful mother and grandmother,
Carol Mathis
